Algae of Lanzarote. Photographs printed in different formats.
The print is on tissue paper, for candle-holder glasses and for lamp bottles. The bottles are recicled from Lanzarote wite wines, artisanally cut and sanded.
The print is on 250gms drawing paper “Caballo 190”, for algae with scientific name and place of collection on labels.
A tribute to Anna Atkins, the botanist who made, using cyanotype, the first photographic book of history: “British Algae” (in three volumes). Her book is now visible on request at the V&A Museum in London and other museums (she did 13 copies, with all original photograms, laying each plant with its label over the sensitized paper).
In this case the print is made with an actual photo and so with a photographic negative. The emulsion is applied with a hake brush, so to let the emulsion strokes visible.
